Five Central Valley Records Worth Your Summer Ears
The touring calendar goes quiet in the deepest heat of a Fresno July, which is the perfect excuse to do what we should all do more of: put on records made by people who live within a tank of gas from here. Music writer Joshua Tehee rounded up a batch of 2026 Central Valley releases earlier this year, and they're still the strongest argument going that this region's scene punches way above its ZIP code. Five that belong on your summer rotation:
Greasy Dashiki — Good and Greasy. This Visalia fusion crew self-produced their second full-length and, per the coverage, set out to "embrace the eclectic". Released via Ragin Records, it's the kind of genre-agnostic record that only comes out of a town where nobody's telling you what a band is supposed to sound like.
Dale Stewart — The Mob Boss President. The former Capitol Punishment guitarist has reinvented himself as an electronic experimenter, and the title tells you exactly how subtle he's being. It's political, it's spiky, and it's proof that Fresno's punk elders don't just fade into cover bands.
Tchiz Chango — Broken Guitars. A mostly instrumental collaboration between Tracy Chisholm and Victor Sotello, released in both a 12-track version and a leaner 10-track cut retitled Splinters — a rare artist who gives you both the director's cut and the radio edit.
Mexico City P.E. Galaxy Paisa. Post-hardcore from Andrew Alejandro Saldate — Haunt's drummer and ex-Beandip frontman — cut at his own Viral Vato studios. This is the DIY thesis in one record: local player, local studio, no permission asked.
Beautymark — Chimera. A three-song EP of dark electro-pop from a self-described music witch working with guitarist Saul Preciado. Short, strange, and the most nocturnal thing on this list.
Five records, one valley, zero major labels involved. The through-line — Visalia to Fresno, fusion to post-hardcore to electro-pop — is that none of these people are waiting for a coast to notice them. Stream them, then go find out which ones turn into a live band this summer. That's the whole game.
