MC Chris — the patron saint of nerdcore, the guy who turned Adult Swim bumpers and Star Wars deep cuts into a rap career that has outlasted half the "serious" acts of his era — plays Mac's Bar on Sunday, July 19, with Swell Rell opening. Consider the pairing of artist and venue for a second, because it is close to perfect. MC Chris built his following on intimacy: rapid-fire, high-pitched verses delivered to rooms full of people who know every word and are not embarrassed about it. Mac's Bar — 2700 E. In a different year, a Sunday-night club rap show might have gotten lost in the festival's shadow. This year, it is the marquee. The scene has gone distributed — a club show here, a free park concert there — and nights like this are what that new model actually looks like on the ground.

So treat it accordingly. This is not background music for a patio; it is a genuine event, in a genuine room, from an artist who has spent two decades proving that "cult favorite" and "still selling tickets" are not contradictions.

Bring cash, bring your voice, and do not pretend you do not know the words. Everyone else in that room will.
