Riverbank Soul to Sisterly Harmony: Your Aug 13–16 Cheat Sheet
Some weekends the Seacoast calendar is a polite drizzle. This is not one of those weekends. Between Thursday and Sunday you can get sweated-out soul on the riverbank, three-part harmony in a national-treasure theater, and a couple of blues legends in a converted YMCA — all inside the same ZIP-code cluster. Pace yourself.
Thursday, Aug. 13 — Allen Stone, Prescott Park (7:00 p.m.). The River House Restaurant Concert Series brings the Washington-state soul belter to the Wilcox Main Stage as part of the August wave Prescott Park announced back in May. It's the festival's usual deal: recommended $20 donation, open to all, blankets on the grass, the Piscataqua doing its slow glitter behind the stage. Stone's whole thing is blue-eyed soul delivered like he's trying to raise the dead — a big outdoor voice for a big outdoor room. Get there early; the good lawn goes fast.
Same night, up on Congress St. — The Devon Allman Project at Jimmy's Jazz & Blues Club. If riverside soul isn't your speed, Jimmy's is running one of its marquee blues nights in the 600-capacity listening room. It's the kind of double-booking that makes the Seacoast feel bigger than it has any right to be.
Friday, Aug. 14 — I'm With Her, The Music Hall (8:00 p.m.). The Sing Me Alive Tour lands Sara Watkins, Sarah Jarosz, and Aoife O'Donovan under the crystal chandelier of the 895-seat 1878 room. Three of the finest voices in American roots music, stacked into harmony, in arguably the prettiest theater on the coast. This is the ticket to have circled if you only pick one. Down the street the same night, The Sheila Divine plays the Press Room (8:00 p.m.) for the loud-guitar crowd.
Saturday, Aug. 15 — pick a lane. Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom hosts Face 2 Face: Billy Joel & Elton John Tribute (8:00 p.m.) in its 99th-season barn by the ocean. Prefer originals to tributes? Caiola headlines Prescott Park (7:00 p.m.), and Whole Lotta Heart: Music of Heart & Led Zeppelin takes the Music Hall (7:30 p.m.), with The Tano Jones Revelry working the Lounge (8:00 p.m.). Farther afield, HAAS plays The Word Barn Meadow in Exeter (7:00 p.m.) for the Americana crowd, and the Button Factory Stage runs a DIY triple bill (7:30 p.m.). And don't sleep on Friday's undercard: The Mallett Brothers Band at the Word Barn Meadow and Angry Hill at the Button Factory both go at 8:00-ish while I'm With Her holds the marquee downtown.
Sunday, Aug. 16 — the soft landing. Jon Cleary & The Absolute Monster Gentlemen bring New Orleans piano funk to Jimmy's, while the Music Hall Lounge closes the weekend gently with Thunder and Rain (7:00 p.m.) and the Press Room hosts Rachael Sage w/ Kevin Connolly (7:00 p.m.).
Four nights, at least a dozen defensible choices, zero reasons to drive to Boston. That's the Seacoast in mid-August — a coastline that over-delivers and dares you to keep up. Bring cash for the Prescott Park bucket. Bring stamina for the rest.
