Four Days in the Woods: Your Pickathon 2026 Survival Guide

It's here. Starting today and running through Sunday, August 2, Pickathon takes over Pendarvis Farm at 16581 SE Hagen Rd in Happy Valley for four days of music, dust, and shade-dappled communion. If you've never made the pilgrimage, consider this your on-ramp.

First, the music. The 2026 lineup is the usual Pickathon high-wire act — genre-agnostic and stacked top to bottom. Steve Earle and Shakey Graves anchor the songwriter side; Built to Spill brings the guitars; Brazilian legend Marcos Valle and reggae elder Clinton Fearon bring the groove; Acid King brings the doom; and a deep undercard runs through Quasi, Mary Halvorson, Widowspeak, the Meridian Brothers, Thee Sinseers, The Altons, and Lyrics Born. Remember the golden rule: nearly every artist plays at least two different sets across the weekend, on different stages, so the show you missed Friday you can often catch Sunday. Cross-reference the schedule obsessively.

The stages are the secret sauce. Pickathon builds handcrafted, architecturally ambitious stages in the woods — rooms made of timber and canvas tucked among the firs — so that even a mid-afternoon discovery set feels like a secret. Wandering between them, drink in hand, stumbling into a band you've never heard of, is the entire experience. Do not over-plan.

Now the logistics, because a great Pickathon is a well-provisioned one. This is a zero-waste festival: bring a reusable cup and utensils, or buy the festival's token set at the gate — there are no single-use cups on the farm. Bring sunscreen, a hat, and far more water than you think; the Clackamas County sun is no joke by mid-afternoon. Nights get cold, so pack a layer even if the day hits 90. The food is genuinely good, leaning farm-to-table, so come hungry.

If you're camping, and you should, arrive early to claim shade — the tree-line spots go first, and they are worth the hustle. If you're day-tripping from Portland, plan for traffic on SE Hagen Rd and give yourself a buffer; Happy Valley's back roads were not built for this.

A word on the ethos. Pickathon has always positioned itself against festival gigantism — smaller, greener, weirder, built for discovery rather than headliner-chasing. Four "magical days in the woods," as the organizers like to frame it, is a modest promise the festival tends to keep. Charge your phone, then ignore it. The best thing you'll see all weekend is a band whose name you didn't know this morning.
