A Field Guide to the Quad Cities' Live-Music Rooms
There are two states, one river, and about a dozen good reasons to leave the house on any given night in the Quad Cities. What we don't have is a single anchor venue that swallows the whole scene. What we have instead is a constellation — a barn out in the corn, an art-deco palace, a nonprofit listening room, a casino ballroom, a couple of sweaty bars that would run through a wall for you. Here's your map. Learn the rooms and you'll never again suffer the tragedy of buying a ticket to the wrong kind of night.
The Raccoon Motel — Davenport, IA (315 E. 2nd St.) The best small room in the metro, and it isn't especially close. You come in through the front bar — presided over by a velvet Willie Nelson painting, a chain-smoking-fox portrait, and, because why not, a Farrah Fawcett poster — then push through green-shag-carpeted doors into a 175-to-200-capacity show room where the indie touring circuit stops to breathe. There are even three rental apartments upstairs with full kitchens, in case you'd like to fall in love with a band and then simply not leave. This is the room for the act you'll be smug about seeing "before."
The Redstone Room / Common Chord — Davenport, IA (129 N. Main St.) The QC's flagship nonprofit listening room, run by Common Chord (the outfit you may still reflexively call River Music Experience). For 20 years the Redstone Room has lived on the second floor, and it's earned its reputation as the place where the sound is right and the crowd actually shuts up. Note for 2026: the room is relocating to a ground-level, step-free space in the former Garrison restaurant downstairs — — so the walk-up may change even if the mission won't. Come here when you want to hear every word.
RIBCO — Rock Island, IL (1815 2nd Ave.) Rock Island Brewing Company, the eternal beating heart of The District, now rebooted as "RIBCO 2.0" under new ownership — a Rocky High alum who took the reins as downtown Rock Island claws its way back. It's a bar, it's a club, it's the place your older cousin swears they saw somebody famous in 2004. Illinois-side, loud, and unbothered.
The Rust Belt — East Moline, IL A roughly 1,000-cap concert hall built inside a converted industrial space, anchoring the reborn riverfront Bend district. This is where the national rock and metal package tours plug in — the Sons of Legion bill lands here Aug 22 — so if you want your night to come with an Illinois-sized PA and a pit, cross the river east.
Codfish Hollow Barnstormers — Maquoketa, IA (5013 288th Ave.) The legend. About 40 minutes out, up a gravel farm lane, sits a barn that touring musicians talk about the way pilgrims talk about shrines. Performers describe the interior as "almost like being in the belly of a whale"; the venue bills itself as "the perfect balance of pro music venue and small-town, community-driven house party," and for once the marketing undersells it. Bring bug spray, cash, and a designated driver.
Adler Theatre — Davenport, IA (136 E. 3rd St.) The grande dame: a 2,400-seat 1931 art-deco theater, the QC's premier large indoor house, run alongside the adjacent RiverCenter. Gilded, seated, acoustically serious — the room for the road show, the comedy tour, the artist who's outgrown clubs but hasn't gone arena.
Rhythm City Casino Resort — Event Center, Davenport, IA (7077 Elmore Ave.) A roughly 1,500-cap casino ballroom that books national country and rock, and every summer transforms into the main stage for the Bix Beiderbecke Jazz Fest. Comfortable, climate-controlled, and conveniently attached to blackjack.
Seven rooms, two states, one river. Pick your night accordingly — and tip your bartender on both sides of the Mississippi.
