Outside Lands Returns to Golden Gate Park This Weekend — Fog Included

For one weekend a year, the west end of Golden Gate Park stops being a park and becomes the biggest room in San Francisco. Outside Lands is back August 7–9, and the 2026 edition brings the usual paradox of the festival: a genuinely enormous, genuinely eclectic lineup, staged in the one microclimate guaranteed to make you regret packing shorts. Bring the jacket. Always bring the jacket.

The headline arithmetic is strong. Charli xcx closes out Friday night, riding the kind of pop-cultural momentum that turns a festival slot into an event. The Strokes top Saturday, a proper heavyweight for the guitar faithful. And Sunday ends on a curveball: Death Cab for Cutie performing their 2005 album Plans in full — a set built for maximum collective sniffling.

The undercard is where the festival earns its reputation. Across the three days the bill runs through Turnstile, Modest Mouse, The xx, Wet Leg, Djo, Lucy Dacus, PinkPantheress, RÜFÜS DU SOL, Empire of the Sun, Baby Keem, Clipse, GloRilla, Tinashe and Labrinth — a spread that refuses to pick a genre and is better for it.

What keeps Outside Lands feeling like an SF institution rather than a generic mega-fest is the local texture bolted onto the corporate machine: the "Wine Lands" pour list, the Bay Area food vendors, the "Grass Lands" and "Choco Lands" side quests, and the specific civic pride of watching a global headliner squint into Golden Gate Park fog at 9 p.m. in August. It is very big and very ours at the same time.

A few field notes for first-timers and lapsed veterans alike: the park is enormous, so pick your must-sees and accept that you cannot see everything; layers are not optional; and the walk out through the Sunset afterward, ears ringing, fog rolling in, is part of the show. Three days, one park, the whole city's worth of sound. See you in the mist.
