Down in the 772, the calendar just got a little more official. Word came this week that Sunset Saturdays — the free, family-friendly concert series that turns Ocean Drive beside Humiston Park into an open-air dance floor — has locked its next slate of dates.

Sunset Saturdays runs in the cooler months, and its biggest cousin — Riverside Theatre's beloved in-season programming, from the free Live in the Loop courtyard sets to the Howl at the Moon dueling pianos — also goes quiet through the deep summer. Which means that right now, in mid-July, the Treasure Coast's live music is doing what the Space Coast's is doing: hiding in plain sight, in the bars and breweries.

And there's plenty of it. Walking Tree Brewery on Dodger Road remains the most reliable room in town for a weekend set, the kind of taproom where a jam band like Vero's own Souljam can stretch a groove past last call and nobody checks a watch. Downtown, the Kilted Mermaid pairs a serious wine-and-craft-beer list with tucked-away live music, while Filthy's covers the other end of the spectrum for anyone who prefers their guitars loud and their floor a little sticky.

Why flag a series that hasn't even started yet? Because Sunset Saturdays is a useful tell about how this coast actually consumes live music. The headline events are civic, seasonal, and free — engineered for families and snowbirds — while the year-round backbone is the unglamorous bar circuit that never stops. The announcement this week isn't really news that a concert is coming. It's a reminder that Vero treats live music as a public utility, something the Chamber schedules like trash pickup, and something a homebuilder is happy to put its name on.
