A Field Guide to Greater Binghamton's Live-Music Rooms
Let's get the bad news out of the way, because pretending otherwise is how tourists end up standing in a parking lot in Johnson City at 9 p.m. wondering where the show is. Greater Binghamton does not have a dedicated mid-sized music hall. We used to. We'll get to that. What we do have is a scrappy, weather-dependent, gloriously free ecosystem of parks, ballparks, museums and honky-tonks — and once you learn to read it, the Parlor City summer is one of the better-value live-music towns in the Southern Tier. Here's your map.
The Bundy Museum of History & Art — Annex Theater (Binghamton). If Binghamton has a beating DIY heart right now, it's beating inside a history museum. The Bundy's Annex Theater is small, nonprofit, and refreshingly unpretentious, running a steady week-to-week calendar of indie bills, drag open-stages, karaoke and open mics. The economics are the point: ticketed shows run roughly $5 to $10 — think $10 for a headline night, $5 to watch a drag open stage. There is no velvet rope, and there is no pretending there needs to be. This is where the scene actually lives.
Touch of Texas (Binghamton). The room for people who like their music with a two-step. An active country-and-roots concert club and honky-tonk, Touch of Texas books general-admission shows with table seating "on a first-come basis" — arrive early or stand — and runs 16+ with a valid ID. It's still pulling touring country in 2026; Redferrin is booked for Aug 27, just past our window, which tells you the room is very much open for business. Come for the boots, stay for the fact that somebody in this county is still booking national acts indoors.
Otsiningo Park bandstand (Town of Dickinson/Binghamton). The big free engine. This county-park amphitheater anchors the whole summer, hosting the Broome Bands Together series on most Tuesdays, 6–8 p.m., free to Broome County residents, presented by Coughlin & Gerhart and benefiting the CHOW food pantry. The season runs, per the county, "on most Tuesdays starting June 2 and ending on September 1." In August the same field becomes Spiedie Fest's main stage. Bring a chair; bring a blanket; bring the kids.
Mirabito Stadium (Binghamton). Yes, the ballpark counts. The Rumble Ponies run "Bands & Brews at the Ballpark," a complimentary pre-game concert series: gates and music at 6:00 p.m., first pitch at 7:00, each night themed to within an inch of its life and capped by the Miller Auto Team Fireworks Series. Two great American traditions — minor-league baseball and a bar band — for the price of one ticket.
Peacemaker's Stage, 7 Court St. (Binghamton). The downtown riverside stage at Confluence Park, home to the city's Friday "Live on the Waterfront" free series; a documented past bill paired Driftwood with KidBess & The Magic Ring, no cover. so treat the stage as real and the calendar as "check before you drive down."
The Forum Theatre (Binghamton). Our grand old proscenium house downtown. Handsome room — but honesty compels the note:. Ditto. Beautiful spaces; unverified summers.
In memoriam. Cyber Cafe West (176 Main St.), the long-running downtown all-ages DIY room, is reported closed — its listing marked "CLOSED" as of January 2026 — which quietly removes one of the few small rooms a young band could actually play. And Magic City Music Hall in Johnson City remains defunct, shuttered since October 2016 (Rusted Root played it out on Oct 29; a co-owner cited insufficient business). It's still listed "permanently closed," and it's the ghost every "Binghamton needs a real venue" column is haunted by.
So that's the terrain: no cathedral, plenty of chapels. The knock on this town is that it lacks a mid-sized hall, and the knock is fair. But a market that gives you a museum theater for five bucks, a free Tuesday amphitheater, and a bar band with your fireworks is not a dead scene. It's a resourceful one. Pack a lawn chair and act like you know.
