Waterloo Weekend: Red Vox, Jukebox the Ghost, and an Irish Nightcap
The last real weekend of July is a Waterloo Road affair, and the Beachland is doing the heavy lifting. Three very different nights, one 500-cap ballroom, and no reason to leave the neighborhood.
It opens tonight, Friday, July 24, with Red Vox in the Ballroom. If you know the band, you know it grew out of the internet — the project fronted by Vinny Vietri, better known to a certain corner of the streaming world — and quietly turned into a genuinely good live rock group, all fuzzed-out guitars and widescreen builds. The crowd tends to skew young, devoted, and loud, which is exactly the energy the Ballroom was built to hold. Saturday, July 25 flips the mood entirely with Jukebox the Ghost, the piano-pop trio that has spent the better part of two decades writing hooks that refuse to leave your skull. This is a band that has toured relentlessly and knows precisely how to work a mid-size room — expect Ben Thornewill's piano front and center, a set heavy on singalongs, and the specific joy of a crowd that came to have an unironically good time. For a nightcap, hold the weekend open a few extra days: Amble, the Irish folk act, lands in the Ballroom on Tuesday, July 28. They're part of the current wave of young Irish songwriters turning trad-adjacent balladry into something that fills rooms well beyond Dublin, and the Beachland Ballroom — wood floors, good sightlines, a bar in the back — is close to an ideal setting for it.
What ties the three together is the room itself.
