Tribute-Band Nirvana: Your Aug 13–16 Brewster Street Weekend

Some weekends the local calendar is about discovery. This one is about karaoke's classier older sibling — the tribute band — and Corpus is leaning all the way in. Across its three rooms, Brewster Street Icehouse is running a genuinely fun stretch of shows from Thursday through Saturday, Aug 13–16, 2026.

Thursday, Aug 13 is the low-key on-ramp: singer-songwriter Aaron Jacob at The Island, Nathan Allen at Southside, and a free set from Eros Garcia downtown — a reminder that Brewster's midweek free shows remain one of the better no-cover deals on the bay. Friday, Aug 14 turns up the volume with Peter Salas on The Island, Scarecrow People at Southside, and, downtown, The Spazmatics: Revenge of the Nerds! — the pocket-protector New Wave tribute that has somehow become a permanent fixture of Texas bar life.

Saturday, Aug 15 is the marquee. Downtown hosts Departure ATX: Tribute to Journey, which means a few hundred people bellowing "Don't Stop Believin'" two blocks from the water — deeply corny, deeply satisfying, exactly what a Saturday ice house is for. Around town the same night: Meza at The Island and the Alley Catz Duo at Southside for anyone who wants their evening a size smaller.

Is a Journey tribute high art? No. But here's the honest case for it: tribute nights are the connective tissue that keeps a mid-size venue's lights on between the big touring bookings, and they subsidize the room where an Aaron Jacob or an Eros Garcia gets a stage the other five nights of the week. A scene needs its crowd-pleasers to bankroll its discoveries. Brewster's three-room spread does both in a single weekend.
