This Weekend: Rod Stewart Rocks the Shed While the Dead Rise in Fairfield
Some weekends the calendar just shows off. Friday night gives you two completely different definitions of a good time twenty miles apart, and Saturday doubles down with a tribute bill that may or may not be a double-header (we'll get to that). Here's how to spend it.

This is a proudly unironic evening — glittery, sentimental, built for a crowd that knows every word and doesn't care who's watching them sing it. Friday, small-room edition — Shakedown Citi, StageOne at FTC, Fairfield. Meanwhile, in Fairfield's black box, one of the region's Grateful Dead tributes sets up for a night of jams that go exactly as long as they need to. This is the beauty of the county on a summer Friday: you can pick arena nostalgia on the water or a Dead-shaped hang in a 200-seat room, and there's no wrong answer. Tribute shows get sneered at by people who've never been to a good one; a Dead tribute in a listening room, where the players can actually stretch a "Dark Star" without a shed-sized clock ticking over them, is about as good as the form gets. Improviser's tip — the StageOne crowd will still be dancing after the Amp lot has emptied.
Saturday — tribute night at the Amp. Here's where I have to be honest with you, because accuracy is the whole job: both Brit Floyd and Get the Led Out appear on the Amp's Aug 8 listing, and we could not confirm whether that's a genuine double-header or a scheduling artifact. If it is a double bill, that's a full evening of Dark Side-grade lasers followed by Zeppelin bombast, and you should plan accordingly. If it's not, you'll still get one of the two heavyweight tribute productions touring right now. Either way, check the box office before you buy.
Why it matters: this is the stretch of summer where the Amp earns its keep. A Hall of Famer Friday, a tribute spectacle Saturday, and — the part that makes it ours — a hometown Dead tribute holding court in a Fairfield black box the same night the big shed goes off. Range like that doesn't happen by accident. It happens because this county quietly built the rooms.
