St. Paul & The Broken Bones Bring the Church of Sweat to Cache Street
There are soul revues, and then there is a Paul Janeway show, which is closer to a tent revival that happens to have a horn section. On Wednesday, August 12, St. Paul & The Broken Bones headline the Center for the Arts in Jackson, with Aaron Golay & The Original Sin opening — a bill that should leave the room damp and grinning.
The Birmingham band has spent a decade proving that a preacher's cadence and a bruising rhythm section never really go out of style. Janeway is a genuine phenomenon live: a man who commits to a soul song the way other people commit to marriage, working the crowd, the balcony, occasionally the floor. The Center for the Arts — celebrating its 19th year in 2026 as the closest thing Jackson has to a real theater — is an ideal room for it: big enough for the horns to bloom, small enough that you can watch Janeway decide, mid-song, to climb something.
