Two Stages, One Aquatic Park: Love Long Beach Turns Shoreline Into a Dance Floor

Some weekends you chase the show. This weekend the show is a park. On Saturday and Sunday, July 18–19, Love Long Beach Festival takes over ShoreLine Aquatic Park (200 Aquarium Way), turning the grassy shelf between the marina and the downtown skyline into an open-air club from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. both days.

The pitch is simple and very correct: house and techno on one side, bass music on the other, the harbor breeze doing the air-conditioning. Organizers have split the weekend across two stages — a Subtract Stage weighted toward house and techno and a Noise Stage leaning into heavier bass. The billed lineup is a genuine crate-digger's roster rather than a radio bill: Lee Burridge, Doc Martin, Colette, Radio Slave, Justin Martin, DJ Minx, Mikey Lion, and Resonant Language, among others.

If those names don't mean much to you, that's kind of the point — this is a festival for people who follow selectors, not singles. Burridge is a patron saint of sunrise-adjacent melodic house; DJ Minx is Detroit royalty; Doc Martin has been a West Coast underground fixture since before some attendees were born. Booking that spread for a mid-size hometown festival is a flex, and it says something about where Long Beach sits now: close enough to L.A.'s dance ecosystem to pull real headliners, far enough to do it on the sand without the Hollywood markup.

Why it matters beyond the weekend: for years the electronic scene here meant a bus to a warehouse in Vernon or a festival in the desert. A two-stage event on public parkland, walkable from downtown and the Blue Line, is the kind of thing that keeps a scene's money and energy in its own city. That the backdrop is the Queen Mary and the Aquarium of the Pacific rather than a fairground infield is pure Long Beach.

Practical notes for first-timers: the park is exposed, so the sun is a headliner too — hydrate, hat up, and remember the breeze turns the evening cool fast once the sets go dark. Rideshare or transit if you can; waterfront parking on a two-day event is a test of character.

Go for a name you know on Saturday afternoon. Stay for the one you'll be evangelizing about by Sunday night. That's how these things work.
