It's Xfinity Mobile Arena Now: A Guide to Philly's Renamed Big Room

You bought tickets to a show at the Wells Fargo Center. You're going to a show at Xfinity Mobile Arena. Congratulations: it's the same building, the same seats, the same interminable walk from the parking lot in South Philly. Only the name on the marquee has changed — and this summer is the first full concert season the big room is spending under its new one.

Here's the plain version. In May 2025, Comcast Spectacor — which owns the arena, together with Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment — announced it would rebrand the 1996-built venue. The switch became official on August 14, 2025, when crews started bolting up fresh signage. Because Comcast owns both the building and the Xfinity Mobile wireless brand, this was less a traditional naming-rights sale than a corporation renaming its own arena after another of its own products. The new name is contracted to stick around through the 2030-31 season.

If you feel like you've done this before, you have. This is Philly's fifth arena name in 30 years. The place opened in 1996 as the CoreStates Center, then became the First Union Center, then the Wachovia Center, then — in 2010 — the Wells Fargo Center, a name that stuck for a solid 15 years. So "Xfinity Mobile Arena" is the first rebrand in a decade and a half, which by South Philly standards counts as stability.

A few things did not change. It's still home to the Flyers, the 76ers and the Wings. And it's still the default landing spot for every arena-scale tour that swings through the region.

Which brings us to the fun part: what's actually playing. This July gave the renamed room a genuine flex of a month. Tame Impala brought "The Deadbeat Tour" through on July 15, with Djo along for the ride. ZAYN played July 19 as part of his 2026 arena run. And J. Cole took the building on July 20. Three very different flavors of superstar in the span of a week is exactly the kind of programming this room exists to deliver.

Why should you care what it's called? Practically speaking, because your ticket, your rideshare pin and your group chat all need to be on the same page — and for a while yet, half the city will still say "the Wells Fargo Center" out of pure muscle memory. Culturally, it's a reminder that the naming of our public gathering places is decided in boardrooms, not by the people who fill the seats. Philadelphians have outlived four names on this building already; we'll outlive this one too.

And there's a clock on it. A brand-new arena for the Flyers and Sixers is planned for the South Philadelphia Sports Complex, with an expected opening around 2031 — meaning today's Xfinity Mobile Arena may itself be a chapter rather than an ending.

So update your contacts, forgive yourself the occasional slip of the tongue, and go see the show. The name over the door is temporary. The nosebleeds are forever.
