Newport Folk Is Back at Fort Adams This Weekend, and the Bill Is Absurd

There is no better place to see live music in America than a granite fort jutting into Narragansett Bay, and for three days starting Friday, the Newport Folk Festival reclaims Fort Adams State Park for its 2026 edition (Jul 24–26). If you have tickets, you already know. If you don't — the fest has a long habit of selling out well in advance, so temper the hope.

The headline story is a lineup that treats "folk" as a verb rather than a genre. Paramore's Hayley Williams, Brandi Carlile, and — in a booking that had the group chat losing its mind — Ms. Lauryn Hill are the marquee names across the weekend. Bring sunscreen, bring a layer for when the bay breeze turns, and do not, under any circumstances, try to leave during the final headliner unless you enjoy sitting in Newport gridlock contemplating your choices.
