The Biggest Weekend of the Summer, County-Wide: Trucks, Interpol, Ojai, and Ventura All at Once

Clear your calendar and possibly your alibi, because from tonight through Sunday the American Riviera schedules more good music than one person can physically attend — and it's spread across three towns, so choose with intention.

The Tedeschi Trucks Band plays the Santa Barbara Bowl tonight, Thursday, August 13, on their Future Soul 2026 Tour with Lukas Nelson opening — twelve-piece soul-rock firepower led by Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks, which is roughly the platonic ideal of a Bowl booking. Friday, August 14, the room hard-pivots to Interpol with julie in support: New York post-punk chill against a warm coastal night, all taut basslines and Paul Banks's deadpan baritone rolling down the terraces. Then Sunday, August 16, the Bowl closes the stretch with the So Glad You Made It Tour — 311 and Dirty Heads, plus Atmosphere and Rome — a full day-drinking, sunscreen-and-bass affair that is as reliably fun as summer gets.

Down in Ventura, the Majestic Ventura Theater hosts reggae institution Steel Pulse on the Reggae Against Racism Tour Friday the 14th, then Mexican rock legends El Tri on Saturday the 15th. A few blocks over, Ventura Music Hall brings Peruvian cumbia pioneers Los Mirlos on Sunday the 16th — a genuine chicha-music bucket-list act. And inland in Ojai, Libbey Bowl runs a murderer's row: the Gipsy Kings featuring Nicolas Reyes on Wednesday the 12th, then Ani DiFranco with Valerie June Friday the 14th under the oaks.

The concrete detail: on Friday, August 14 alone you could theoretically see Interpol in Santa Barbara, Steel Pulse and El Tri in Ventura, and Ani DiFranco in Ojai — four wildly different shows within forty-five minutes of one another. That is not a normal thing for a region this size. That is a legitimate cultural embarrassment of riches.

Why does it matter that all of this lands the same weekend? Because it's the clearest evidence yet that "the scene" isn't just the Bowl with satellites — it's a real three-county circuit, humming at full volume, all at once. Pick your town. Pick your genre. You genuinely cannot lose.
