This weekend, July 10 and 11, hands you a genuinely stacked slate, from a room-full-of-love tribute to a night of guitars to a basement's worth of emo catharsis. Here's how to spend it.
Friday, July 10 — "Any Port in a Storm" (Tribute for Oisin Daly), 8pm, Victory North. We'll lead with the one that matters most. This is a tribute night, and tribute nights are the truest thing a music town does — a room of people picking up instruments to say what's hard to say out loud. Victory North's 500-plus capacity across those three ice-factory floors is exactly the kind of space that can hold a night like this, big enough for the whole community and intimate enough that the string-lit courtyard will feel like a wake and a celebration at once. Go early. Bring people. Nights like this are why the room exists.
Saturday, July 11 — Homegrown Summer Jam '26, 7pm, Victory North. Twenty-four hours later the same venue flips the mood entirely with a homegrown showcase, doors at 7. The name tells you the ethos: this is local talent claiming the big stage, the kind of bill where you'll spend the whole night nudging your friend and saying "wait, they're from here?" The three floors mean you can chase a sound from the mezzanine to the courtyard and back. This is the scene taking a bow for itself.
Saturday, July 11 — Derrick Flowers Band, 9pm, Barrelhouse South. If you want your Saturday a little grittier — and at 125 W Congress, grit is the house specialty — the Derrick Flowers Band takes the Barrelhouse stage at 9. This is the "gritty and unapologetic" room, so expect volume, expect sweat, and if you need a breather, the basement game room is right there waiting to lose you an hour.
Saturday, July 11 — Emo Night, 9:30pm, The Wormhole. And finally, for those of us who never fully recovered from a certain era of mall-adjacent heartbreak: Emo Night hits The Wormhole at 9:30. The Starland dive is the perfect crime scene for it — small, sweaty, unbothered by dignity, exactly the kind of place where a whole room screaming along to songs about being seventeen and misunderstood feels less like a bit and more like therapy. Wear black. It's July; you'll regret it; do it anyway.
So there's your grid: a tribute that'll mean something, a hometown blowout, a rock show with a pool table, and a night of collective emotional excavation. Two of these are at Victory North, which means you could genuinely make that room your entire weekend and come out having felt the full range of what live music is for — grief on Friday, pride on Saturday.
