On Aug. 13, the Britt Pavilion lawn is going to look different than it did in July, because Atmosphere — the Minneapolis duo of rapper Slug and producer Ant, and one of independent hip-hop's most durable acts — is bringing three decades of underground rap to a room better known for banjos. Good. A festival that only books the expected thing is just a jukebox with a view.

Atmosphere is exactly the kind of act that proves Britt is a real venue and not a niche one. Slug and Ant have been at this since the mid-1990s, building the Rhymesayers label into an institution and grinding out a touring career on the least glamorous fuel there is: showing up, year after year, and connecting with a crowd that grew up on their records.
