This Weekend: Nicholas Vernon Owns Dirtbag While the Ballpark Glows

The first real weekend of summer break arrives Friday, and Fayetteville is doing what it does best — spreading the good stuff across a brewery lawn, a downtown ballpark, and a Raeford Road stage, and daring you to pick just one.

Start in Hope Mills. Friday, July 10, singer-songwriter Nicholas Vernon plays Dirtbag Ales Brewery & Taproom at 7 p.m., part of the brewery's standing Friday–Saturday–Sunday live-music rotation. Dirtbag is the rare room where you can bring the dog, feed the kids at Napkins, and still catch an actual set from an actual working artist. Vernon is the kind of booking that justifies the whole model: a name you'll be able to say you saw before the room got bigger.

If you'd rather your soundtrack come with a seventh-inning stretch, the Woodpeckers are downtown at Segra Stadium. Houston's High-A affiliate has spent seasons proving that a minor-league ballpark is really a music venue that happens to sell hot dogs — postgame concert nights, walk-up songs, and a videoboard that turned into a free World Cup watch party just last week.
