Alison Krauss and Union Station Reunite, and the Finger Lakes Get the Payoff

For a while it looked like Alison Krauss & Union Station might exist mostly in the past tense — the most decorated act in bluegrass history, a little dormant, its members scattered across other projects. Then the band regrouped, made a record, and hit the road, and on July 25 that reunion pulls into CMAC in Canandaigua, dobro master Jerry Douglas in tow.

CMAC's 2026 season announcement lists Krauss and Union Station, featuring Douglas, bringing their "Arcadia" tour to the amphitheater on July 25, with singer-songwriter Theo Lawrence opening. This is a substantial booking. Krauss owns one of the most-awarded shelves in Grammy history, and Union Station is not a backing band so much as a collection of virtuosos — Douglas alone reshaped what a resonator guitar can do in a bluegrass context. When this group is locked in, the interplay is almost unfair.

What you get live is precision that never turns cold. Krauss sings quiet, and a full amphitheater goes quieter to meet her; then the band opens up on an instrumental and reminds you these are some of the fastest, cleanest hands in American roots music. The "Arcadia" material sits alongside the catalog that made them — the murder ballads, the gospel harmonies, the aching slow ones that have soundtracked a thousand weddings and at least as many funerals.

Why this one matters for the region: bluegrass and roots music are load-bearing genres in the Finger Lakes — GrassRoots exists, the wineries book Stringdusters and Punch Brothers, and there's a real audience here that knows the difference between a good fiddle player and a great one. Landing Krauss and Union Station on a reunion tour, at the region's flagship amphitheater, is the kind of booking that tells the touring industry the Finger Lakes takes this music seriously. It does.

If you only make one CMAC show this summer and you care about how notes are actually played, make it this one. Get there early enough to give Theo Lawrence a fair hearing.
