Weekend Preview: A Post-Hardcore Legend, a Honky-Tonk Doubleheader and Comedy at the Movie Palace
This is one of those Fort Worth weekends where the hard part isn't finding a show — it's picking one. Aug 14–16 spreads a genuine embarrassment of options across three of the city's signature rooms, from a Southside independent to the World's Largest Honky Tonk to a 1950 movie palace. Here's the map.
The headline for the guitar-and-feelings crowd is Anthony Green at Tulips FTW on Saturday, Aug 15, with Keith Goodwin along for the ride. Green — the Circa Survive and Saosin frontman whose voice launched a thousand post-hardcore imitators — in a room the size of Tulips is close to a best-case scenario for anyone who came up on that sound. This is a singer built for arenas playing a Southside independent; the intimacy is the whole draw. Get there early, because a room like Tulips fills fast for a name like this.
If your weekend runs more boots than breakdowns, the Stockyards has you covered with a Billy Bob's Texas doubleheader. Friday, Aug 14, brings Aaron Lewis & The Stateliners; Saturday, Aug 15, hands the barn to Texas favorite Roger Creager. Two nights, two very different flavors of country, one enormous dance floor — and, as ever, a bull-riding arena sharing the address.
Over on Camp Bowie, the historic Ridglea Theater goes a different direction entirely on Saturday, Aug 15, hosting Four Day Weekend — Fort Worth's long-running improv-comedy institution — inside the restored movie palace. It's a reminder that "live music rooms" in this city moonlight as everything else, and that the Ridglea's marquee is worth checking no matter what mood you're in.
Zoom out and this weekend is a tidy argument for the whole Fort Worth thesis. In roughly 48 hours you can see a post-hardcore icon in a 200-to-mid-cap independent, a rock-to-country crossover and a Texas dancehall staple in a barn that seats thousands, and a homegrown comedy troupe in a seven-decade-old theater. No single genre, no single scale, no single neighborhood — just a city with enough independent rooms to give everybody a Saturday.
A quick scheduling note, because two of the marquee names land on the same night: Anthony Green at Tulips and Roger Creager at Billy Bob's both fall on Saturday the 15th, as does the Ridglea's Four Day Weekend show. You are, unfortunately, going to have to choose.
The Panther City Sound call? If you were shaped by mid-2000s post-hardcore, Green at Tulips is a genuinely rare intimate booking and probably your night of the summer. If you want the full Fort Worth postcard — neon, boots, a dance floor the size of a runway — Creager at the honky-tonk delivers. Either way, you're spoiled. That's a good problem, and it's an even better weekend.
