This Weekend: Free Band Concerts, a Rock Show at the Water Park, and Downtown After Dark

The nice thing about a Hot Springs weekend in July is that you don't have to choose between highbrow and sweaty. You can do both, sometimes on the same night, and this weekend lays out the full spread — from a free civic band concert to a national rock act playing next to a roller coaster.

Start with the one that costs nothing. The Hot Springs Concert Band brings its free 2026 summer series to the Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences and the Arts (200 Whittington Ave.) on Monday, July 13, at 6 p.m. with a program billed as "Class Reunion" — nostalgic material spanning the 1950s through the 1970s, per the Sentinel-Record. It's technically the start of next week, not this weekend, but it's the kind of thing you plan around: a real community ensemble, no ticket, air conditioning, and a program engineered to make somebody's grandmother cry happy tears.

For something louder, head out to Timberwood Amphitheater at Magic Springs, where the summer concert series rolls on. The park's 2026 run has been booking a name a week into late August; among the July dates on the announced calendar is a Saturday, July 11 show at the amphitheater as part of the same series that brought Halestorm and Justin Moore through earlier in the season. Concerts are bundled with park admission, with evening-only entry available after 5 p.m., so you can ride the rides sunburnt and then catch a set.

Downtown does what downtown always does. Maxine's and The Ohio Club both run weekend music on Central Avenue — the Ohio Club with its Thursday-through-Sunday rotation of jazz and classic rock, Maxine's with whatever it has booked into its listening room. Walk the four blocks between them and you've got a night.

Why this matters: a town's music economy isn't just the headliners. It's whether an ordinary weekend in the off-peak middle of July still offers a free band concert, a national touring show, and two barrooms with live acts within walking distance. Hot Springs clears that bar without breaking a sweat — which, in July, is more than the rest of us can say.
