The Britt Season Is the Rogue Valley's Real Summer Calendar
There are two ways to know summer has arrived in the Rogue Valley. One is the smoke report. The other is the parking situation in Jacksonville, where a gold-rush town of 3,000 turns into a concert district several nights a week from June into September, because the Britt Music & Arts Festival is once again the biggest thing happening south of Eugene.
The 2026 run is stacked and, crucially, real: the confirmed in-window slate includes The California Honeydrops on July 17 and The String Cheese Incident on July 25, before an August surge that brings Atmosphere on Aug. 13 and Los Lobos with Los Lonely Boys on Aug. 14. The back half of the season stretches to Alison Krauss & Union Station (Aug. 25), Portugal. The Man (Aug. 24) and Chicago in September.
The venue is the pitch. Britt Pavilion seats 2,200 across reserved benches and open lawn on the hillside estate of Peter Britt, a Swiss-born photographer who staged the valley's first concerts here more than a century before the nonprofit made it official in 1963. The natural bowl of ponderosa pine does things to a mandolin that no line array can fake, which is why bluegrass and jam acts treat a Britt date as a bucket-list stop rather than a routing convenience.
Here's the part worth saying out loud. A festival of this reach in a market this size is not a given — it exists because a nonprofit chose to plant world-class touring in a former mining town and trust that people would drive from Klamath Falls, Redding and Roseburg to sit on a lawn. They do. The economic multiplier ripples through every Jacksonville tasting room and every Medford hotel, but the cultural multiplier matters more: kids grow up thinking it's normal to see Los Lobos under the stars, and some of them pick up instruments because of it.
The move, as ever, is lawn seats and an early arrival. Bring layers — the hillside cools fast once the sun drops behind the Siskiyous — and let the pines earn their keep.
